Dr. Chris Howells is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist whose focus is on helping adults overcome internal barriers that prevent them from enjoying life. Dr. Howells believes in affirming the strengths and tailoring the therapeutic approach to each patient’s unique needs. He has been extensively trained in evidence-based cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic psychotherapy treatments designed to provide lasting relief from a wide variety of life and emotional struggles, as well as clinical conditions. Most notably, he has a particular emphasis on assisting those who have not benefited fully from previous mental health treatment, and those whose symptoms have made the healing process challenging. His style is a balance of warmth and directness designed to rapidly reach treatment goals without being overwhelming. In addition, Dr. Howells has a strong background in completing psychological evaluations for the purpose of diagnostic clarification and recommendations of care.
Dr. Howells received a commission into the United States Air Force and completed the APA-accredited Clinical Psychology Residency Program at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. Subsequently, he worked as an active duty psychologist providing a variety of psychological services to military members and served in several different leadership roles. Dr. Howells left active duty and returned to San Antonio to work as a civilian psychologist with the Army in the Trauma-Focused Intensive Outpatient Behavioral Health Program and in the Multi-Disciplinary Outpatient Behavioral Health Program at Fort Sam Houston. He is currently licensed in Texas and has been recognized with the Health Service Psychologist (HSP) designation from the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
